Katherine’s Journey to Success

Congratulations to Kathy Guardia, a former student of San Mateo Adult & Career Education, on her well-earned promotion to English Learner Specialist! Her journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and continuous growth. Wishing her continued success in this new role!

I’m from Panama and have been living in San Mateo California since February 2019. ESL High Advanced Listening & Speaking / Professional Communications for Business and Beyond / Advanced Writing Class / Student Ambassador and Volunteer.

I have been part of the SMACE family since March 2019 when I started taking the High Advanced Listening & Speaking class, soon I became involved in school activities as a Student Ambassador, volunteered to work at the Smart Center, and became a volunteer at the Emergency Department at the Sutter Hospital in Burlingame as well.

San Mateo Adult School opened a world of opportunities for me, giving me the advantage of getting real work experience in the U.S. In the blink of an eye, I was working part-time as an Instructional Assistant for San Mateo Union High School District and after one year I got a full-time position as an Attendance Clerk at Capuchino High School. Since 2021 I’m proud to be the Front Desk Manager at the Adult School.
